It's only July, but Greece has already decided that pop star Sakis Rouvas will represent the country at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, proposed to take place in Moscow, Russia. An ERT representative confirmed that to Eurovision.tv
In 2004, in Istanbul, the Greek singer represented his country successfully with Shake It, and reached a third place. Months later, he performed at the closing ceremony ofthe Olympic Games. In 2006, when Athens hosted the Eurovision Song Contest, Rouvas presented the competition together with Maria Menounos.
Weeks ago, Rouvas released his new single Kai Se Thelo as a digital single. The song, composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos, has become a dance hit and has reached #1 on the Greek airplay charts. The 36-year old pop idol expressed his wish to represent Greece once again during a radio show, last month. This week, Greek public broadcaster ERT confirmed in national media and to Eurovision.tv that Sakis Rouvas will again represent the nation at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.
Greece is the first country to publically announce its 2009 Eurovision Song Contest representative. A song will be chosen at a later stage, and no further details have been released.
ESCTIME.COM REPORTS CyBC report us exclusively that the decision about Eurovision Song Contest 2009 was not make yet. Names as Tamta, Kostas Martakis, Marianta Pieridis and Stavros Konstantinou only express their interest to take part with Cyprus.
CyBC tell us that the final decision for Cyprus will be made by CyBC council. A possible option is to proclaim a national final. If finally CyBC decide to select internally the decision will be made according what the artist can offer with the participation, what the artist expect from CyBC, the economics of CyBC and the sponsors which are able to support the artist.
OIKOTIMES.COM VIEW Just remember that back in 2007 it was the same reaction during the summer when the name of Evridiki was rumoured! Usual response we guess!
Georgia aren't participating this year cause of the political thing between them and russia and they don't think their singers/journalists will be safe in moscow.
Viktor bilan really should do it because he was the winner, it will be the 1st time in a long time that someone other than the winner has opened the show. Will he just present or sing, or both? I'd like to see him present.
