Missing out

Who is missing out in ESC and why?
I am constantly saying Wales and Scotland should be represented but what of other countries in Europe?
Northern Ireland
Greenland

Arguable entries:
Kosovo - arguments over independence
England - already a main participant (leader of the UK)

Non-participants 2008:
Italy - since 1997
Austria - since 2007

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland cannot participate (at the moment) because our Euro channel is the bbc and it is used in all UK countries, so if a different channel becomes Euro channel, like S4C in Wales, we could participate!!

Scotland wants to go alone next year!!

Apparantly ESC is very unpopular in Italy and the live show got low ratings which is supposed to be the reason why they pulled out all those years ago

Italy gives a lot of importance to the festival of San Remo so it is a little bit difficult for them to participate again in the esc.

It is a little bit similar to the esc but instead only Italian singers take part. It is very popular there infact it is one of their important events they have there.

Italy has only won (and hosted ESC twice)

Every country in the UK has hosted ESC except Wales!!!
Englad - 7 times
Scotland - 1 time (1972)
N Ireland - 0 BUT benefits from ROI hosting ESC (7 times)
Wales - 0, no benefits!!!

I guess Welsh people could go to England, it's not that far away. But I agree that it must be tough living in a country made up of separate entities.

My country's not even allowed. XD We have to watch stupid AI instead, and I don't even do that.

the welsh could (and do for now) but nationalism is getting stronger in Wales/Scotland and Scotland wants independence so soon Wales & Scotland won't be in the United Kingdom anymore!!

Wales is very different, its very rural and we have our own language and culture so we deserve freedom!!

AI? American Idol maybe? We used to have Pop Idol but now we have X Factor which is basically the same...

Welsh singers can compete in the Eisteddfod and anyone from across the world can take part in the international Eisteddfod - maybe u should take part Ela :P

American Idol, yes, the closest thing the US has to Eurovision. And from what I've heard, it's a disgrace.

Go nationalism! XD

What's Eisteddfod?

(edited because I spelled it wrong the first time)

The Eisteddfod is the biggest and oldest competition in Europe (the national) and one of the biggest in the world (the international). Its very old and very Welsh :P

Its a song, poetry and literature contest
National - only Wales takes part but nearly all entries have to be in Welsh
International - any country can take part, entries any language - more points for using welsh

Theres an American Eisteddfod but the word is said wrong in America
& an Austrailian one

you can find out more here: http://www.eisteddfod.org.uk/ (english link at top of page :P)

You don'y have to be in Europe to participate in ESC
e.g. Morocco took part in 1980 and it is in Africa!!

Your country has to be a member of the EBU and there are 8 non-Euro countries in the EBU
