HI all, yes i was there, I saw him get the award, I was still kind of in shock...I"ll write up a really detailed description, translation, whatever, in both russian and english soon. I took a video and some pics, but they're not very good quality.
Still in shock...and no, I didn't meet him afterwards.
Since I was lucky enough to go along to the concert, I thought I'd share impressions, videos, pictures, a translation, etc....
So here goes:
(Im skipping over all the other artists to just write a description of the parts of the concert with Dima):
So, about a third into the concert, they announced the winner for Dimas category, who was, of course, Dima. Unlike most of the other award winners, he actually came onto stage promptly and thanked all of his fans for voting for him, for listening to his music, etcAfter he went offstage, the host said how awed he was at having stood next to Dima, he said he would go tell the story to his mother later that night
Then Dima was onstage for the second time to present an award, I believe, and of course the host commented upon how Dima probably earns so much money that every time he goes back to Belarus the president tell him imagine how many good things we could buy for Belarus with that money! and of course he also remarked upon how tall Dima was. Dima also mentioned how he was examining his trophy backstage, and how the secret meaning of the naked person on the statue came to him. It had something to do with chemistry (he never misses a chance to say that he majored in chemistry, does he?), but either he didnt expand upon it or I missed it.
Then, later, Dima came onstage to perform three songs. Of course, his backup band spent about 5 minutes setting up, but hey, I guess that means I could be sure he was singing live (not that Dima would every lip synch). The first song he sangs was Tsarevna, of course, which won the award. It was a slightly different version, though, in which he sang some long notes instead of part of the refrain, and the music was rather electric. It was very beautiful, though, very powerful, he really put so much of himself into the song...Then he sang tune in to me, the song for which hes been filming a clip, and also Give Me Power. The high note at the end was perfect, as usual. He also pointed the microphone at the audience at certain bits, hoping theyd sing parts of the song, but they were kind of unresponsive, unfortunatelythat is another proof, however, that he was singing liveAnd of course, he sang everything with such dignity, no hip thrusting or rolling around on the floor or dancing with the microphone like some people at the concert....
Those are the main things that come to mind. Unfortunately, I couldnt go to the afterparty and meet Dima, but even seeing him perform was kind of awesome Im still in shock.
Here is a video I uploaded onto youtube (bad quality!, though): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjQT5Idylzo
Yes, I definitely did. Granted, I had a cold, and also didn't get to go to the afterparty, and had to put up with some not so great performers, but Dima was totally worth it all....
Thanks for all the detail Ana! Wish I could've been there, but thanks for the vid/photos. We all know that cute blob on stage is Dima. XD. And I really cracked up when you said that thing about "no hip-thrusting or rolling around on the floor..." I think you know why.
